6.1. The user interface to DIAL Search
The DIAL Search front page suggests four steps in the use of DIAL Search:
- Choosing a search/display method - Simple or Advanced.
- Choosing a Library to search - limit the scope of the search, if
desired.
- Entering search terms - depending on the search method chosen, just
enter key terms, or use boolean and proximity connectors as well.
- Check other legislation resources - repeat the search over the DIAL
Index, Yahoo!, Alta Vista and AustLII if required; check the DIAL Index for
resources not yet in DIAL Search.
Each of these steps is discussed in
detail in this Chapter.

Steps 3 and 4 in the DIAL Search interface
The Guided Tour of DIAL Search[130]http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/special/dial/tour.html#Heading19]provides
a useful interactive introduction to DIAL Search, even though it is now
somewhat out of date (October 1997). It is worth taking the Guided Tour before
reading the rest of this Chapter.
The links to Simple Search Tips & Examples and Advanced Search
Tips & Examples on the DIAL Search front page are to the relevant parts
of the Guided Tour.
