6. Full text search - DIAL Search
The purpose of DIAL Search is to provide one search facility where
users can search legislation-related materials located on web sites around the
world. DIAL Search uses `web spider' technology to create an index of the
occurrence of every word on the sites that it indexes. It then provides a
facility for this `full text' database to be searched. Finally it produces a
search results list which takes the user to the original web sites where the
data is located. All of these aspects of DIAL Search are described in this
Chapter.
The need for a facility like DIAL Search is explained in Chapters 2
and 4, and the use of `embedded searches' of DIAL Search in the DIAL Index is
explained in Chapter 5.
